DHAKA, \u2013 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today paid
\nglowing tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
\nmarking his Birth Centenary and the Golden Jubilee of the country\u2019s
\nindependence celebrations.<\/p>\n
She paid the homage by placing a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu in
\nfront of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 in capital this
\nmorning.<\/p>\n
After laying the wreath, she stood in solemn silence for some time as a
\nmark of profound respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, also the architect of
\nindependence and the greatest Bangalee of all times.<\/p>\n
Bangabandhu\u2019s younger daughter Sheikh Rehana, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin
\nChaudhury and Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain were present.<\/p>\n
A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh
\nNavy, and Bangladesh Air Force presented a state salute on the occasion when
\nthe bugles played the last post.<\/p>\n
PM\u2019s Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon confirmed the matter to BSS.<\/p>\n
A special Munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls
\nof Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs
\nof the August 15,1975 carnage.<\/p>\n
Prayers were also offered for the continued peace, progress and prosperity
\nof the country as well as the nation.<\/p>\n
Later, the Prime Minister entered the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum and
\nplaced a wreath at the stair where the blood strained and bullet-riddled body
\nof the great leader fell at the black night of August 15.<\/p>\n
On March 17, one hundred years ago, Bangabandhu, the greatest Bangalee of
\nall times, was born to a respected family at Tungipara village of the then
\nGopalganj sub-division, now a district, as the third among six children of
\nSheikh Lutfur Rahman and Saira Khatun.<\/p>\n
The day is being celebrated across the country as the National Children\u2019s
\nDay.<\/p>\n
The government earlier declared the period from March 17, 2020 to March
\n26, 2021 as the \u201cMujib Borsho\u201d (Mujib Year) marking the birth centenary of
\nBangabandhu. The period was later extended till December 16 this year.<\/p>\n
Along with Bangladesh, the Mujib Year is being celebrated globally with
\nthe initiative of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
