WILMINGTON, United States, Nov 20, 2020 \u2013 US President-elect Joe
\nBiden on Thursday accused Donald Trump of brazenly damaging democracy, as the
\nincumbent\u2019s campaign to reverse his election loss through fraud claims was
\ndealt another blow with a recount in Georgia.<\/p>\n
Trump was behind \u201cincredibly damaging messages being sent to the rest of
\nthe world about how democracy functions,\u201d Biden told reporters in his home
\nstate of Delaware.<\/p>\n
Trump has refused to accept his loss on November 3, despite his opponent
\ngetting over six million more votes.<\/p>\n
Biden also won the Electoral College votes that ultimately decide who takes
\nthe White House by 306 to 232, flipping five states that went to Trump four
\nyears ago.<\/p>\n
That includes Georgia, where a hand recount of its five million ballots
\nconfirmed Thursday that Biden is the first Democratic presidential candidate
\nto win the southern state in almost three decades.<\/p>\n
The recount showed Biden had won by 12,284 votes, according to figures
\nposted on Georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger\u2019s website \u2014 slightly
\nfewer than the approximately 14,000 he originally led by.<\/p>\n
After initially making baseless claims of widespread fraud, Trump has
\nappeared to shift his strategy to asking states to overrule the will of
\nvoters.<\/p>\n
In Michigan, Trump placed a telephone call to a Republican on a once-
\nobscure board who wants to withdraw her certification of the election result
\nin a heavily Democratic county that includes majority-Black Detroit.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was checking to make sure I was safe after seeing\/hearing about the
\nthreats and doxxing,\u201d Wayne County Board of Canvassers chairwoman Monica
\nPalmer told the Detroit Free Press, referring to personal information posted
\nabout her on social media.<\/p>\n
Trump also reportedly invited Michigan Republican lawmakers to the White
\nHouse, even as his campaign withdrew a federal lawsuit that asked the courts
\nto block final certification of the state\u2019s results.<\/p>\n
Biden won Michigan on November 3 by 155,000 votes, a margin of victory more
\nthan 10 times higher than Trump\u2019s when he won the state in 2016.<\/p>\n
Asked about Trump\u2019s calls with officials there, Biden said it was \u201canother
\nincident where he will go down in history as being one of the most
\nirresponsible presidents in American history.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s hard to fathom how this man thinks,\u201d Biden said. \u201cI\u2019m confident he
\nknows he hasn\u2019t won, is not going to be able to win and we\u2019re going to be
\nsworn in January 20th.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2013 More accusations by Trump camp \u2013<\/p>\n
Earlier Thursday Trump had dispatched his lawyer Rudy Giuliani to give a
\nnews conference where he read affidavits claiming fraudulent voter activity
\nin multiple states and said the campaign would file a new lawsuit in Georgia.<\/p>\n
Giuliani, a former mayor of New York, brazenly accused Democrats of being
\n\u201ccrooks\u201d who committed massive fraud in several battleground states \u201cto steal
\nan election from the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt changes the results of the election in Michigan if you take out Wayne
\nCounty,\u201d said Giuliani, who repeatedly wiped sweat from his brow and at one
\npoint had a dark liquid which may have been hair dye snaking down the side of
\nhis face.<\/p>\n
As Giuliani and other Trump lawyers outlined claims that included charges
\nof communist involvement, the president \u2014 apparently watching on television
\n\u2014 took to Twitter to applaud them for laying out \u201can open-and-shut case of
\nvoter fraud.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chris Krebs, the top US election security official who was fired by Trump
\nafter calling the election the most secure ever, wrote on Twitter that the
\nnews conference was \u201cthe most dangerous 1hr 45 minutes of television in
\nAmerican history\u201d and \u201cpossibly the craziest.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2013 Recount \u2018did its job\u2019 \u2013<\/p>\n
In Georgia, some discrepancies were found in Republican leaning counties,
\naccording to Gabriel Sterling, Georgia\u2019s voting system manager who helped
\nmonitor the so-called risk-level audit.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe good part was, the audit did its job. It found those tranches of
\nvotes,\u201d he told Fox News.<\/p>\n
The issues, which were chalked up to human error and not fraud, included
\nmemory cards that were not scanned in Douglas and Walton counties, more than
\n2,700 missing votes in Fayette County, and 2,600 ballots from Floyd County
\nthat were not scanned.<\/p>\n
Raffensperger, who like Sterling is a Republican, said prior to the results
\nbeing released that there was no widespread voter fraud.<\/p>\n
The focus on Georgia is not just because of the recount. The state\u2019s two US
\nSenate races are going to runoffs on January 5 that will determine control of
