Hillary Clinton, who lost to Donald
\nTrump in 2016, said Tuesday that this year\u2019s Democratic challenger Joe Biden
\nshould refuse to concede until all votes are counted in a tight and possibly
\ndrawn-out contest.<\/p>\n
Clinton said that possible delays in tallying ballots \u2014 with mail-in
\nvoting set to reach unprecedented levels \u2014 mean Biden must hold back from
\naccepting defeat initially.<\/p>\n
\u201cJoe Biden should not concede under any circumstances because I think this
\nis going to drag out and, eventually, I do believe he will win if we don\u2019t
\ngive an inch and if we are as focused and relentless as the other side,\u201d
\nClinton said in an interview with Showtime\u2019s \u201cThe Circus.\u201d<\/p>\n
Clinton, who won almost three million more votes than Trump overall in 2016
\nbut lost to him in the state-by-state electoral college count, suggested that
\nthe Republicans are hoping to get the result they want through in-person
\nvoting on the day \u2014 and not necessarily wait for any delayed mail-in ballots
\nto be counted.<\/p>\n
Her comments follow warnings from both sides that the result of the
\nelection may not be known on the evening of November 3.<\/p>\n
Republicans \u201chave a couple of scenarios that they are looking toward. One
\nis messing up absentee balloting,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey believe that helps them so that they then get maybe a narrow
\nadvantage in the electoral college on election day,\u201d Clinton said.<\/p>\n
She called for Democrats to mount a \u201cmassive legal operation.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to have our own teams of people to counter the force of
\nintimidation that the Republicans and Trump are going to put outside polling
\nplaces,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Americans are expected to vote by mail in massive numbers due to the
\ncoronavirus pandemic, but Trump has opposed more funding for the cash-
\nstrapped US Postal Service, acknowledging the money would be used to help
\nprocess ballots.<\/p>\n
Trump says, without providing evidence, that mail-in voting will lead to
\nmass fraud and a rigged election. The practice is already common in parts of
\nthe United States, without significant fraud, and Trump himself votes by
\nmail.<\/p>\n
Democrats accuse Trump of deliberately trying to sabotage the post office\u2019s
\ncapacity to deal with the expected big increase in volume.<\/p>\n
Trump has repeatedly refused to confirm that he will accept the result of
