Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will
\ninaugurate the two-day celebration of \u2018Dhaka-OIC Youth Capital 2020\u2019
\nthis afternoon with participation of 100 local and 150 youths from
\nacross the globe while 10 of them will get the \u2018Bangabandhu Global
\nYouth Award\u2019.<\/p>\n
Minister of Culture and Sports of Qatar will hand over the OIC
\nYouth Capital Key from Doha to Dhaka at the virtual inaugural
\nceremony, scheduled to start at 4 pm, while OIC secretary general will
\njoin along with several ministers and signatories of a numbers of OIC
\nmember states.<\/p>\n
The celebration includes two-day youth summit titled \u201cResilient
\nYouth Leadership Summit\u201d under the theme \u2013 \u2018Parity and Prosperity: For
\na Resilient Future\u2019.<\/p>\n
More than 1,200 youths from 74 countries had applied for the
\nparticipation in the youth summit, of which the organizing committee
\nhas short-listed 250 participants, including 100 from Bangladesh and
\n150 others from OIC Member States and beyond, while proper gender
\nbalance has been maintained reflecting Bangladesh\u2019s commitment in
\nwomen empowerment.<\/p>\n
These short-listed participants will connect with the expert
\npanelists from home and abroad to discuss how youth can be engaged to
\ncombat COVID-19 in the first session on Monday and the justice and
\naccountability issue of the persecuted Rohingya population in the
\nsecond session on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
At the end of the summit, an \u2018outcome document\u2019 will be adopted for
\nfurther youth action on the volunteerism and humanitarian ground.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis event will be a great opportunity to project the positive
\nbranding of Bangladesh highlighting the brilliant works of the youths
\nand share knowledge among the stakeholders,\u201d foreign minister Dr AK
\nAbdul Momen told at a virtual international media briefing here on
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
Mentioning that the event coincides with the birth centenary of the
\nFather of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Dr Momen said
\nDhaka will introduce \u2018Bangabandhu Global Youth Award\u2019 for 10 youths
\nwho placed an outstanding contribution to different fields to
\nenlighten the global youths about the legacy and contribution of
\nBangabandhu.<\/p>\n
On December 25 last, the Istanbul based Islamic Cooperation Youth
\nForum (ICYF), an entity affiliated to the Organization of Islamic
\nCooperation (OIC), announced Dhaka as the \u201cOIC Youth Capital 2020\u201d
\nmarking a significant recognition for the dynamic and determined
\nleadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina\u2019s government in the youth
\nsector.<\/p>\n
Bangladesh contested for the coveted title since May last year and
\neventually was shortlisted \u2013 along with Kazakhstan and Tunisia \u2013 by
