The premier said in the 6th advisory council members\u2019 meeting of Prime
\nMinister\u2019s Education Assistance Trust at her office here.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina, also Chief Patron of the advisory council of the trust,
\nsaid, \u201cWe should change the mindset of running after for jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n
She asked the youths to be employers instead of employees.<\/p>\n
In this context, she said, \u201cWe have formed the trust to give educational
\nassistance to talented but poor students as they can be self-reliant and thus
\ntheir families.\u201d<\/p>\n
The premier said this when a proposal regarding providing educational
\nassistance to the poor students, who are facing financial hardship to get
\nadmitted to the medicals, engineering and general universities for higher
\neducation, was placed before the meeting.<\/p>\n
She, however, discouraged authorities concerned from abruptly providing
\nstipends to the students saying they should not be encouraged to depend on
\nthe government\u2019s subsidies.<\/p>\n
Stressing the need for updating information on stipends, she directed the
\nauthorities to entrust officials of ministries concerned with the
\nresponsibilities.<\/p>\n
She also gave her consent to a proposal of allocating Taka 5 crore more as
\nthe seed money to give financial assistance to MPhil and Phd students. The
\ngovernment earlier gave Taka 5 crore to this end.<\/p>\n
The premier also suggested taking effective measures in allowing students
\nto get admitted to educational institutions in accordance with their seat
\ncapacity.<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cI don\u2019t understand how students are studying in a classroom
\nhaving excessive number of students.\u201d<\/p>\n
Prime Minister\u2019s Education Assistance Trust was constituted in 2012 aimed
\nat providing scholarships to the poor and meritorious students deprived of
\nthe opportunity of education due to lack of money.<\/p>\n
A total of Taka 1,000 crore was given as seed money for the trust in the
\n2011-12 fiscal.<\/p>\n
As many as Taka 550.90 crore have already been distributed among poor
\ntalented students as stipend and financial assistance since 2013.<\/p>\n
The trust has decided to distribute over Taka 111.40 crore among 209,600
\npoor students of private educational institutions this year.<\/p>\n
Advisory council members of the trust: Finance Minister A H M Mustafa
\nKamal, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Planning Minister M A Mannan and
\nState Minister for Primary and Mass Education Mohammad Zakir Hossen were
\npresent.<\/p>\n
Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, PM\u2019s Principal
\nSecretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, Finance Secretary Abdur Rouf Talukder, PM\u2019s Press
\nSecretary Ihsanul Karim, PMO Secretary Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Dhaka
\nUniversity Vice Chancellor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, UGC (University Grants
\nCommission) Chairman Kazi Shahidullah, Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB)
\nNazrul Islam, among others, were present on the occasion.<\/p>\n
