<\/p>\nPrime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said
\nBangladesh has attained an ability to advance further by competing any nation
\nof the world and asserted that none can pull the country backward any more.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re implementing 90 percent of our development projects by our own
\nfund \u2026 now donors don\u2019t come to give alms to us. Rather they come to
\nprovide assistance mentioning us their development partners. Because we don\u2019t
\nwant alms to anybody,\u201d she told a reception here last night.<\/p>\n
Awami League Italy Chapter accorded the reception to the prime minister
\nat Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa.<\/p>\n
Pointing out the construction of the Padma Bridge by the government\u2019s
\nown fund, the prime minister said: \u201cWe\u2019ve proved that we could do any work by
\nourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina said the World Bank wanted to put blame on the government
\nregarding the bridge. \u201cI had taken it as a challenge, saying that we\u2019ll build
\nthe bridge by our own fund and now we\u2019re implementing the project by our
\nmoney,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The prime minister said Bangladesh earned independence through
\nliberation war under the leadership of Bangabandhu. \u201cSo I promised that
\nwhenever we\u2019ll come to power, we\u2019ll build the country in such a way so that
\nBangladesh can move with dignity on the world stage,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina went on saying: \u201cWe can now claim that we\u2019ve been able to
\nbring the image of Bangladesh to that position.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mentioning that the country is advancing fast economically, the prime
\nminister said the Father of the Nation had turned Bangladesh into a least
\ndeveloped country by rebuilding the war-ravaged country.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur government has given Bangladesh a status of a developing country
\nfrom that position and we\u2019ve to keep up the status till 2024 to transform
\nBangladesh into a middle income country \u2026 we\u2019ve already attained three
\ncriteria that are needed to achieve the target,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cNone can take us backward anymore and we\u2019ll move ahead \u2014
\nit\u2019s the biggest word.\u201d<\/p>\n
The prime minister said those who grabbed power illegally after the
\nassassination of Bangabandhu were busy to change their own lot, not the
\nchange the fate of the people.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt that time Bangladesh was known as a country of cyclone, tidal surge
\nand famine in the world and the people of the world saw Bangladesh in the
\neyes of neglect during the period which was shameful and painful for us,\u201d she
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Hasina said her government has brought down extreme poverty rate
\nto 10 percent and poverty rate 20.5 percent. \u201cInsha Allah we could cut the
\nrate by two\/three percent more by this year and for this we\u2019ve taken some
\nspecial programmes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t want a single person to remain poor and none can see us in the
\neyes of compassion \u2026 Bangladesh earned independence through liberation war
\nand as a victorious nation, it\u2019ll move keeping its head high and this is our
\naim,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Vowing that not a single person to remain homeless, the prime minister
\nsaid her government is constructing houses for the homeless people through
\nAshrayan Project and also formed housing fund for them.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot a single people will remain homeless by Mujib Borsho,\u201d she said,
\nadding Taka 100 crore has been allocated separately in the budget for
\nrehabilitation of the river erosion-hit people.<\/p>\n
Spelling out her government\u2019s various steps for the welfare of the
\nexpatriate Bangladeshis, Sheikh Hasina said her government has set up
\nProbashi Klayan Bank so that the people intending to go abroad do not need to
\nsell their land or property for this purpose.<\/p>\n
The prime minister said the government has set up 5,800 digital centres
\nthrough which the people intending to go abroad can register their names in
\nthe expatriates welfare ministry.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve also taken an initiative so that we can send 1000 people abroad
\nfrom every upazila and for this, we\u2019ve made arrangements for smart card for
\nthem,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina said her government previously introduced machine readable
\npassport. \u201cNow it\u2019s the era of e-passport and we\u2019ve already started work on
\ngiving e-passports so that none can become a victim of cheating,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She said steps have been taken so that the passengers do not become
\nvictims of harassment in the airports in Bangladesh. \u201cWe\u2019re constructing the
\nthird terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to provide better
\nservices to the passengers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The prime minister said her government has given importance to technical
\neducation to generate more employment. \u201cWe\u2019ve taken steps to build a skilled
\nmanpower in the country and for this we\u2019re setting up a technical education
\ninstitute in every upazila,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
About the country\u2019s tremendous socioeconomic development in the last 11
\nyears, she said there is no magic behind the success.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor this, it\u2019s necessary to know and understand the country with utmost
\nsincerity, love the people and keep confidence and trust in them and work for
\ntheir welfare \u2026 we\u2019ve learned it from our parents,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina said Bangabandhu had a huge dream with the people of the
\ncountry and as his children: \u201cWe know his desire, and sacrificing all things
\nof life, I\u2019m doing only work that the luck of the people of Bangladesh must
\nbe changed and to achieve the goal, we\u2019re taking every step.\u201d<\/p>\n
The prime minister said as a political party Awami League has an
\neconomic policy and manifesto, adding, \u201cWe don\u2019t only giving an election
\nmanifesto \u2026 we frame budget every year keeping the manifesto ahead,\u201d she
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina said: \u201cThere are many works left and as much time I get, I
\ntry to utilise that time to develop the country fast and I seek cooperation
\nof all in this regard.\u201d<\/p>\n
About the demand of the expatriate Bangladeshis living in Italy for
\nlaunching Biman flight here, she said the discussion is underway with the
\nItaly government in this regard. \u201cI\u2019ll also raise the issue before the Italy
\nprime minister during our talks,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and President of Italy Chapter Awami
\nLeague Hazi Mohammad Idris Farazi and General Secretary Hasan Iqbal and on
\nbehalf of the expatriate Bangladeshis, Hosne Ara Begum spoke at the function.<\/p>\n
Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy Abdus Sobhan Sikdar and President of UK
\nChapter Awami League Sultan Mahmud Sharif were present on the dais.<\/p>\n
A huge number of leaders and workers of AL and its associate
\norganisations from different European countries also joined the event.<\/p>\n
The prime minister arrived here on Tuesday afternoon for a four-day
\nofficial visit to Italy at the invitation of her Italian counterpart Giuseppe
