\nWazed Joy today expressed his optimism that the export of country\u2019s IT and
\ntechnology sector will exceed earnings from garments sector within very short
\ntime as the sector is growing very rapidly.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday on the record officially, Bangladesh\u2019s IT export exceed $1
\nbillion. . . I believe within a very short time, we will cross our garments
\nexport through technology export,\u201d he told the inaugural ceremony of a three-
\nday Digital Bangladesh Mela at BICC hall here.<\/p>\n
However, he said, as most IT services are internet based and exports are
\nhappening over the internet, it is impossible to track the true volume.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that there is at least another billion or two billion US
\ndollars in export that is happening unofficially through the internet that is
\nnot being tracked. So, we are very well on our way to catch out garments
\nindustry in terms of our IT services\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Joy also expressed his hope that the country will roll out 5-G
\ntechnologies with the rest of the world.<\/p>\n
Chaired by Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar, the
\nfunction was addressed by Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on
\nPosts, Telecommunication and Information Technology AKM Rahmatullah, Huawei
\nTechnologies (Bangladesh) Ltd CEO Zhang Zhengjun and Posts and
