{"id":8072,"date":"2020-01-01T13:25:13","date_gmt":"2020-01-01T13:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deshmediabd.info\/?p=8072"},"modified":"2020-01-01T13:25:13","modified_gmt":"2020-01-01T13:25:13","slug":"pm-opens-ditf-announcing-light-engineering-as-product-of-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deshnews24.info\/?p=8072","title":{"rendered":"PM opens DITF, announcing light engineering as product of 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today inaugurated<br \/>\nthe 25th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF), announcing the \u201cLight<br \/>\nEngineering\u201d as the \u201cProduct of the Year\u201d for 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a part of export policy, we are declaring \u201cLight Engineering\u201d as the<br \/>\nproduct of 2020 aimed at encouraging the product based export while we are<br \/>\ncalling for more investment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The premier said this while opening the month-long DITF-2020 jointly<br \/>\norganised by Commerce Ministry and Export Promotion Bureau at Bangabandhu<br \/>\nInternational Conference Centre (BICC) here.<\/p>\n<p>She simultaneously stressed the need for taking appropriate measures to<br \/>\nstrengthen the light engineering sector and help explore its export<br \/>\npotential.<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister said that the light engineering products such as<br \/>\nbicycle, motorcycle, automobile, auto-parts, electric and electronics,<br \/>\naccumulator battery, solar photovoltaic module and toys have the potential of<br \/>\nattracting more investment.<\/p>\n<p>She said importance were earlier given on leather and leather goods,<br \/>\njute and jute goods and other products, adding, \u201cBut, this year we are giving<br \/>\nimportance on the light engineering as it has also huge potential of<br \/>\nattracting investment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The premier opened the trade fair by cutting ribbon to formally begin it on<br \/>\naround 26 acres of land at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.<\/p>\n<p>She later visited different stalls and pavilion including the \u201cBangabandhu<br \/>\nPavilion\u201d installed at the venue for presenting the life and works of Father<br \/>\nof the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking the celebration of<br \/>\nBangabandhu\u2019s birth centenary.<\/p>\n<p>Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing<br \/>\nCommittee on Commerce Ministry Tofail Ahmed, Secretary of the ministry Dr Md<br \/>\nJafar Uddin, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry<br \/>\n(FBCCI) President Sheikh Fazle Fahim and Vice Chairman of Export Processing<br \/>\nBureau (EPB), Fatima Yasmin, spoke on the occasion.<\/p>\n<p>Around 483 stalls and pavilions, including premium, foreign and mini<br \/>\nforeign pavilions, have been set up in the fair venue.<\/p>\n<p>The fair will be open to visitors from 10:00am to 9:30pm. The entry fee for<br \/>\nadults is Tk 40 and Tk 20 for minors.<\/p>\n<p>Traders from over 21 countries, including India, Bhutan, Pakistan, China,<br \/>\nthe United States, the United Kingdom, Nepal, Japan, Australia, Germany, Hong<br \/>\nKong and Arab Emirates are taking part in the fair.<\/p>\n<p>Sheikh Hasina stressed the need for stopping dependency on one or two<br \/>\nproducts for export and said, \u201cWe are giving special focus on producing much<br \/>\nmore products considering the demand of the local and neighbouring countries\u2019<br \/>\nmarket to increase number of export items.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Describing leather and leather goods, products of shoe industries, light<br \/>\nengineering and plastic as the four highly potential sectors for boosting<br \/>\nexport, the premier said she believed that the commerce ministry\u2019s project<br \/>\n\u2018Export Competitiveness for Jobs\u2019 will create scope for the sectors to<br \/>\nincrease export.<\/p>\n<p>She said her government has been attaching special priorities to the four<br \/>\nsectors alongside the Information Communication Technology (ICT).<\/p>\n<p>In this perspective, the prime minister put stress on ICT, saying that the<br \/>\nICT sector would much contribute to Bangladesh\u2019s economy if the digital<br \/>\ndevices are produced largely as the world now depends on technology.<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cI believe ICT will be the largest sector for us in the future<br \/>\nand we will be able to earn huge foreign currency by exporting its products.<br \/>\nSo, we have taken measures such as imparting training, setting high tech<br \/>\nparks, and creating manpower to give the sector a strong footing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She called for more local and foreign investment in jute and jute products<br \/>\ndescribing it as environment friendly as the people are now attaching<br \/>\npriority to protecting the environment while the world is now facing the<br \/>\nimpact of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, she said, \u201cWe want more investment in this sector. If the<br \/>\nprivate sector, local and foreign investors show interest in investing in the<br \/>\nsector, we will provide them every necessary support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Noting that arrangement of the fair is very important for expanding the<br \/>\ntrade and businesses of Bangladesh in the world, she said, \u201cWe are arranging<br \/>\nthe trade fair for the 25th time after successful completion of its 24th<br \/>\nedition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alongside these sectors, Sheikh Hasina said her government has given<br \/>\npriority to the production of agro-processed and handloom items to expand the<br \/>\nexport basket, adding, \u201cWe are giving special attention to the sectors due to<br \/>\nhaving their potential in terms of export.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The premier also stressed the need for exporting not only the raw<br \/>\nmaterials but also the processed products to increase export of the agro-<br \/>\nprocessed items, frozen lobsters, frozen fish, mango, and potato.<\/p>\n<p>Noting that the number of export oriented products is increasing, Sheikh<br \/>\nHasina said, \u201cWe are now exporting 766 products in 202 countries while the<br \/>\nexport products and service now stands at $ 46.87 billion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister said Bangladesh has been able to keep its strong<br \/>\nposition on export sector despite having unfavorable environment in trade<br \/>\nsector of the world due to the time-befitting measures taken by her<br \/>\ngovernment.<\/p>\n<p>Asking for find out more foreign markets for Bangladeshi products, she<br \/>\nsaid, \u201cWherever I go, I asked the foreign missions to extract more markets<br \/>\nfor Bangladeshi products. Wings have been opened in mission abroad to pursue<br \/>\nthe job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The premier called upon the foreign investors to choose Bangladesh as<br \/>\nbusiness abode to enjoy the win-win situation.<\/p>\n<p>Spelling out her government measures taken for the overall development of<br \/>\nthe country, she said, \u201cBangladesh has achieved 8.15 percent in GDP growth.<br \/>\nDespite having decreasing trend in GDP growth across the globe, Bangladesh is<br \/>\ncontinuously increasing its GDP growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said Bangladesh is looking for accelerating its present 8.15 percent<br \/>\nGDP growth while $1,909 per capita income will increase in the future with<br \/>\ncoming down the poverty rate to 20.5 percent from 41.<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister said, \u201cBangladesh has become main power in the Asia<br \/>\nPacific in terms of economic growth in accordance with the Asian Development<br \/>\nOutlook Update-2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that the report predicts the rate of economic growth of<br \/>\nBangladesh will be higher in comparison to China and India.<\/p>\n<p>The premier said as per the World Bank report-2020, Bangladesh has secured<br \/>\n168th position among 190 countries in terms of ease of doing business in the<br \/>\nlast year with upping eight steps while Bangladesh has achieved 72nd position<br \/>\nfrom the last year\u2019s 89th position in case of having security of investors.<\/p>\n<p>Sheikh Hasina said her government has taken every possible measure in<br \/>\neasing doing business and for this reason, taskforce have been formed.<\/p>\n<p>The premier said it is immensely needed to attract investment in the<br \/>\neconomic sector particularly in industry and productive projects to achieve<br \/>\nthe Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n<p>She said being the gateway of other South Asian nations Bangladesh is<br \/>\nconnected with 4 billion consumers alongside the country\u2019s own market of 17<br \/>\ncrore people.<\/p>\n<p>The premier said due to its geographic advantage Bangladesh could also<br \/>\nemerge as bridge between the Oriental and Western countries.<\/p>\n<p>She said her government has been implementing various projects for<br \/>\nbuilding infrastructure and development of the roads alongside the water,<br \/>\nrail and air ways to develop the communication system for easy transportation<br \/>\nof goods.<\/p>\n<p>Steps have been taken for establishing communications among Bangladesh,<br \/>\nBhutan, India and Nepal while the BCIM corridor will link Bangladesh, China,<br \/>\nIndia and Myanmar to expand their trade and businesses, she added.bss<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
