The Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, has called for unity among political forces, urging parties to rise above differences and work together to protect democracy and the national interest.<\/p>\n
Speaking Wednesday at a gathering ahead of the BNP\u2019s victory rally in front of the party\u2019s central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka, Tarique emphasized that while political disagreements are natural, consensus on core national issues must be preserved.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to tell all political parties: differences in opinion are normal. We will continue to engage in dialogue to resolve them. But when it comes to democracy and the fate of the nation, that dialogue must never stop,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the sake of our country and people, we must stand united. Because this state belongs to all of us \u2014 regardless of religion, ideology, or political belief.\u201d<\/p>\n
He called on all political actors to cooperate in building a just, democratic, and prosperous Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
Tarique urged citizens to remain vigilant, warning that the collapse of democracy under the previous regime had turned the country into what he described as a “brutal prison.”<\/p>\n
\u201cThe time has come for the people to make a decision \u2014 to build a safe, secure Bangladesh,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring the era of fascism, we were not safe. Our children were not safe. Our right to vote was stolen. Without democracy and the rule of law, the entire nation suffered.\u201d<\/p>\n
He stressed that the current moment offers a historic opportunity to restore and strengthen democratic foundations.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf political forces can harness the momentum of the \u201824 Movement \u2014 and use it to establish true political and economic empowerment of the people \u2014 then no one will ever be able to impose fascism again. No one will turn this country into a personal fiefdom. We will never have to witness another bloody \u201824\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
Referring to the day\u2019s victory rally, Tarique framed the event as a symbolic turning point in the nation\u2019s journey.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the fascists were in power \u2014 fallen, fugitive, and oppressive \u2014 darkness ruled the land. Today\u2019s procession marks our journey from darkness to light,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
