Biman Bangladesh Airlines has initiated a series of precautionary technical inspections across its Dreamliner fleet to ensure safety and operational integrity, following the recent crash of an Air India flight.<\/p>\n
The London-bound Air India aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed soon after taking off from the western Indian city of Ahmedabad on Thursday.<\/p>\n
At least 270 people were killed, most of them passengers.<\/p>\n
Although the cause of the accident is still under investigation, Biman’s Engineering Division has proactively launched a comprehensive assessment of all critical systems in its Boeing 787 aircraft.<\/p>\n
These include the engine fuel system, electronic engine control, electrical power, hydraulic system, air conditioning, and flight control systems.<\/p>\n
The national flag carrier has also commenced power assurance checks on the engines, according to a statement issued by ABM Raoshan Kabir, general manager (public relations) of Biman, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The engineering team is prepared to immediately implement any maintenance-related directives issued by the aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, once the investigation into the Air India incident concludes.<\/p>\n
Currently, Biman operates six Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, four Boeing 787-8s and two Boeing 787-9s, on various international routes.<\/p>\n
All Biman aircraft undergo regular maintenance under an aircraft maintenance programme that clearly defines each task, timeline, and procedure, also read the statement.<\/p>\n
The programme, approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), is designed in line with maintenance planning documents, type certificate holder guidelines, and Boeing’s regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n
These maintenance activities are conducted under the supervision of one or more type-rated engineers by strictly following specific maintenance manuals fixed by Boeing.<\/p>\n
Upon completion of each task, the responsible engineer signs the task card, which is subsequently verified by the quality assurance team and archived by the maintenance planning branch.<\/p>\n
In addition, Biman uses aircraft health management and engine health management systems to continuously monitor the real-time status of each aircraft through its Maintenance Control Centre and Central Engineering Department.<\/p>\n
