The cabinet today approved in principle the
\ndraft of \u201cThe Company (amendment) Law, 2018\u201d incorporating a provision
\nallowing formation of a \u201cone-man company\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe proposed law defines a \u2018one-man company\u2019 as a company to be formed
\nwith one person,\u201d Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters
\nafter the regular cabinet meeting held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime
\nMinister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.<\/p>\n

The cabinet secretary said the proposed amendment to the company law
\nbrought a new concept which was unfamiliar to the country\u2019s business arena so
\nfar.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis concept doesn\u2019t exist in our law, but different countries of the
\nworld are following it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Alam said the law has been proposed to bring a \u201cone-man company\u201d under the
\npurview of the legal framework.<\/p>\n

In the existing law, he said, there is a provision for formation of a
\ncompany by keeping limited its members to 50 excluding the persons appointed
\nto the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut this provision will not be applicable to the constitution of a \u201cone-
\nman company, and in the case of such a company, it can be formed with one
\nperson,\u201d the cabinet secretary added.<\/p>\n

Alam said the cabinet also gave the final approval to the draft of \u201cThe
\nBangladesh Film and Television Institute (Amendment) Law, 2018,\u201d aimed at
\nfurther flourishing mass media like film and television.<\/p>\n
