\nelected again her government would set up modern tanneries in Chattogram and
\nRajshahi as well as an exclusive leather industrial zone with all modern
\nfacilities.<\/p>\n
The government has already asked the concerned officials to find out a
\nsuitable place for the industrial zone, she said adding that the leather
\nindustrial zone and the tanneries would be constructed if her party is
\nreelected.<\/p>\n
The prime minister was inaugurating Bangladesh Leather Footwear & Leather
\nGoods International Sourcing Show (Blliss)-2018 at a function at Bangabandhu
\nInternational Conference Centre here.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I\u2019m elected I will construct the industrial zone and tanneries. And if
\nI\u2019m not elected you make sure that the new government will execute the plan,\u201d
\nSheikh Hasina told the leather industry leaders.<\/p>\n
The prime minister asked the authorities of the newly established Special
\nEconomic Zones (SEZs) to keep an area in every zone particularly for leather
\nindustries.<\/p>\n
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, senior secretary of the commerce ministry
\nShubashish Basu, president of FBCCI Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin were present as
\nspecial guests while president of the Leather Goods and Footwear
\nManufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) Safiul Islam
\ngave the welcome address.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has immense scope to flourish its leather
\nindustry abroad as the country is already producing leather goods for many
\nglobally reputed brands.<\/p>\n
Our workers can manufacture high quality products if they get a little bit
\ntraining. Particularly our women are more expert in crafting handwork on
\nleather goods, she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want more foreign brands to come here with investment. It will help
\nthem getting manpower at a low cost, and us to create employment
\nopportunities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The foreign investors can also get huge market opportunities from
\nBangladesh due to its geographical location and multi-modal communication,
\nshe added.<\/p>\n
In this regard, the prime minister pointed out the steps taken by her
\ngovernment for development of the international airport in the tourist city
\nof Cox\u2019s Bazar aimed at making it feasible for operation of wide-bodied
\nflights and attracting foreign tourists and investors.<\/p>\n
Urging the country\u2019s business community to judge the activities of her
\ngovernment over the last 10 years, the prime minister said, \u201cI\u2019m leaving upon
\nyou to judge what we have done for expansion of trade and business, export,
\nemployment and resolving the problems of businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina said her government has resolved the acute power crisis by
\nenhancing the generation capacity to 20,000 MW from 1,600 MW in last 10
\nyears. Living condition of the people has been improved and scopes of
\nbusinesses were expanded, she added.<\/p>\n
The prime minister said her government successfully implemented its
\ncommitment to build a Digital Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
She said the whole country is now connected with internet services and
\nBangladesh has launched its own satellite into the orbit.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina said her government has created scope so that
\nbusinesspersons can do businesses. \u201cWe are not businessperson. So, I always
\nbelieve that businesspersons will do business,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do work to create opportunities for businesspersons through exploring
\nmarket abroad as well as enhancing the purchase capacity of the local people
\nthrough improving their economic condition,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBusinesses and industries would never be sustainable without increasing
\nthe purchase capacity of the local people,\u201d the prime minister noted.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina said over the last 10 years Bangladesh economy has gained
\naffordability. \u201cWe have established a smooth communication network with
\nneighboring countries where we can find huge markets of our products,\u201d she
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The government is making its continued stride to have quota free excess of
\nBangladeshi goods to potential global markets, she said.<\/p>\n
The prime minister said people of the country as well as the business
\ncommunity are getting the benefits of the economic programs of her
\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina said her government has eyed on attracting investment from
\nlocal and foreign sources aimed at ensuring full engagement of the workable
\nyouth force. One hundred Special Economic Zones are being established to
\nattract local and foreign investment, she said.<\/p>\n
Aimed at building a competent youth force, the prime minister said the
\ngovernment has introduced multipurpose education system side by side giving
\nspecialized training to the youths.<\/p>\n
Apart from a number of agriculture and medical universities, textiles
\nuniversity, digital university and fashion design university were set up to
\ncreate competent manpower in those fields, she said.<\/p>\n
The prime minister urged the private sector to come forward to create
\nskilled labour in the country.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Hasina said her government has attached importance to \u2018economic
\ndiplomacy\u2019 asking the Bangladesh missions abroad to explore business
\nopportunities.<\/p>\n
The prime minister said the government has made constant stride for
\ncountry\u2019s industrial development as well as encouraging agriculture so that
\nfarmers don\u2019t become reluctant to their occupation.<\/p>\n
Laying importance on enlarging the country\u2019s export basket, the prime
\nminister said the government is giving incentives to many sectors to boost
\nexport.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithout the government incentives, she said, no industry can flourish.
\nShe urged the LFMEAB leaders to explore markets abroad to avail incentives on
\nexport of leather goods.<\/p>\n
