{"id":25665,"date":"2022-04-19T15:43:03","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T15:43:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deshmediabd.com\/?p=25665"},"modified":"2022-04-19T15:43:03","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T15:43:03","slug":"ecnec-nods-11-projects-involving-tk-4541-81-crore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deshnews24.info\/?p=25665","title":{"rendered":"ECNEC nods 11 projects involving Tk 4,541.81 crore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Executive Committee of the National<br \/>\nEconomic Council (ECNEC) today approved a total of 11 projects costing Taka<br \/>\n4,541.81 crore, including one for empowering the country&#8217;s womenfolk through<br \/>\ntechnological support with Taka 250.03 crore.<\/p>\n<p>The approval came from the 14th meeting of the ECNEC in the current fiscal<br \/>\nyear (FY22) with its Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the<br \/>\nchair.<\/p>\n<p>The Premier joined the meeting virtually from her official Ganabhaban<br \/>\nresidence while ministers, state ministers, planning commission members and<br \/>\nsecretaries concerned attended the meeting from the NEC Conference Room in<br \/>\nthe city&#8217;s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.<\/p>\n<p>Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said that a<br \/>\ntotal of 11 projects were approved today involving an overall estimated cost<br \/>\nof Taka 4,541.81 crore while the entire project cost would come from the<br \/>\nstate coffer.<\/p>\n<p>Of the approved 11 projects, six are new while the rest five projects are<br \/>\nrevised ones.<\/p>\n<p>Revealing some of the directives from the Premier, the Planning Minister said<br \/>\nthat the Prime Minister had directed all the authorities of the concerned<br \/>\ncity corporations to become self-reliant gradually instead of depending on<br \/>\nthe government.<\/p>\n<p>Mannan informed that the Premier directed the Rural Development and<br \/>\nCooperatives Division to gradually expand the operations of milk-based<br \/>\ncooperatives in the milk deficit upazilas to meet the growing demand for<br \/>\nprotein.<\/p>\n<p>Supplementing on the issue, State Minister for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam said<br \/>\nthat Sheikh Hasina also stressed the need for agro-processing initiatives<br \/>\nside by side producing ghee, powder milk and cheese from milk where the<br \/>\nprivate sector initiatives could be highly encouraged.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the approval of a project in Mymensingh City Corporation, Mannan<br \/>\nsaid the Premier gave a strong order for having sound waste management adding<br \/>\nthat CETP or ETP should be in place so that no waste is poured into the<br \/>\nrivers.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the Prime Minister is highly concerned about the environmental<br \/>\nissue adding that CETPs and ETPs should be established where industries are<br \/>\nmushrooming.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Shamsul Alam supplemented that the Premier stressed that the National<br \/>\nRiver Protection Commission should have a close vigil so that the rivers<br \/>\nacross the country are not polluted.<\/p>\n<p>He also informed that Sheikh Hasina while giving approval to the project for<br \/>\nempowering the womenfolk unrecorded that the women get proper training in a<br \/>\ntrue sense so that they could become self-reliant.<\/p>\n<p>Answering to a question about the reoccurrence of revision of Development<br \/>\nprojects, the Planning Minister said that the government has been trying<br \/>\nrelentlessly to come out of such a trend by applying better technology and<br \/>\nknowledge.<\/p>\n<p>But, he acknowledged that the COVID-19 pandemic which was an unforeseen event<br \/>\naffected the project implementation process to some extent. Besides, the<br \/>\nRussia-Ukraine war is also ongoing, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mannan, however, informed that despite the war and the pandemic, the work of<br \/>\nRooppur nuclear power plant project is on track alongside the Matarbari power<br \/>\nplant and others.<\/p>\n<p>Replying to another question, he said that corruption might take place at an<br \/>\nindividual level to some extent, but according to his knowledge, there is no<br \/>\ncorruption at the institutional level.<\/p>\n<p>The Planning Minister said that the recent Cabinet decision of building<br \/>\nelevated roads in the haor areas would be a &#8216;game changer&#8217; and the government<br \/>\nis very much committed to it. There will be no more all-weather roads, he<br \/>\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>He told another questioner that due to the relentless and massive development<br \/>\ninitiatives of this proactive Awami League government, there is so much rush<br \/>\nand gathering on the roads and highways with increased traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Mannan informed that the ECNEC was also apprised of the approval of a project<br \/>\nfor turning the historic Rose Garden into a museum.<\/p>\n<p>Replying to a question, Dr Alam said that Bangladesh is in a safe zone in<br \/>\ndebt repayment as the country did not fail in repaying loans in its 51-year<br \/>\nhistory.<\/p>\n<p>Revealing the rate of implementation of the Revised Annual Development<br \/>\nProgramme (RADP) during the July-March period of the current fiscal year<br \/>\n(FY22), Mannan said that the rate is 3.64 per cent higher than the<br \/>\ncorresponding period of the previous fiscal year (FY21).<\/p>\n<p>The RADP implementation rate during the July-March period was 45.56 per cent<br \/>\nwith an expenditure of Taka 98,934.92 crore whereas the RADP implementation<br \/>\nrate during the July-March period of the last fiscal year was 41.92 per cent<br \/>\nwith an expenditure of Taka 87,735.51 crore.<\/p>\n<p>Mannan said that the RADP implementation rate has increased during this nine-<br \/>\nmonth period due to the sound management of the government despite the<br \/>\npandemic alongside the hard work of the common people.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Planning Minister said that the Department of ICT under the ICT Division<br \/>\nwill implement the project titled &#8220;Her Power Project: Women empowerment<br \/>\nthrough technological support (2nd phase)&#8221; by December 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The project will be implemented at some 130 upazilas under 44 districts of 8<br \/>\ndivisions. The project was first proposed to be named as &#8220;She Power Project&#8221;,<br \/>\nbut later was changed as &#8220;Her Power Project&#8221; following the directives from<br \/>\nthe Premier.<\/p>\n<p>The main objectives of the project are to create opportunities for self<br \/>\nemployment to the womenfolk through enhancing their skills by ensuring<br \/>\noptimum safe utilization of ICT side by side ensuring their sustainable<br \/>\nempowerment as entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p>The main project operations include providing internal training to some<br \/>\n26,325 female, providing financial grant to some 25,125 female for procuring<br \/>\ncomputers and laptops, ensuring some 29,484 education materials, procurement<br \/>\nof necessary computer equipment and furniture, procurement of some 86<br \/>\ntelecommunication and electric equipment, creation of four computer software<br \/>\nand database.<\/p>\n<p>The other projects approved in the meeting are expanding the operations of<br \/>\nmilk cooperatives in the milk deficit upazilas with Taka 156.88 crore,<br \/>\nProtecting Nawabganj under Dhaka district from the erosion of Kaliganga<br \/>\nRiver, protecting Saturia, Gheor and Manikganj Sadar upazila and Singair<br \/>\nupazila under Manikganj district through protecting their riverbanks with<br \/>\nTaka 688.96 crore, Addressing water logging at Narayanganj Sadar upazila with<br \/>\nTaka 149.70 crore, Canal excavation from Baroipara of Bohaddarhat to<br \/>\nKarnaphuli River, 2nd revised with an additional cost of Taka 106.46 crore.<\/p>\n<p>The other projects approved in the meeting are Supply of necessary<br \/>\nmachineries and equipment to Mymensingh city corporation and improvement of<br \/>\nits waste management with Taka 122.13 crore, Construction of broad gauge<br \/>\nrailway track from Chilahati to Chilahati border to establish rail<br \/>\ncommunication with India, 1st revised with an additional cost of Taka 60.52<br \/>\ncrore, Construction of border roads (Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban<br \/>\nhilly districts), 1st phase, 1st revised with an additional cost of Taka<br \/>\n2,174.47 crore, Upgrading district highways into due standard and width,<br \/>\nCumilla Zone, 1st revised with an additional cost of Taka 77.91 crore,<br \/>\nConstruction, development of Nabinagar-Shibpur-Radhika regional highway, (R-<br \/>\n203), 1st revised with an additional cost of Taka 95.92 crore and Protecting<br \/>\nMorelganj upazila Sadar and adjacent areas from the erosion of Panguchhi<br \/>\nriver in Bagerhat and re-excavation of Bishkhali River with Taka 658.83<br \/>\ncrore.bss<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today approved a total of 11 projects costing Taka 4,541.81 crore, including one for empowering the country&#8217;s womenfolk through technological support with Taka 250.03 crore.
