{"id":17190,"date":"2021-10-07T16:42:12","date_gmt":"2021-10-07T16:42:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deshmediabd.com\/?p=17190"},"modified":"2021-10-07T16:42:12","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T16:42:12","slug":"bangladesh-set-to-become-500bn-economy-by-2026-stanchart-economists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deshnews24.info\/?p=17190","title":{"rendered":"Bangladesh set to become $500bn economy by 2026: StanChart economists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leading economists of Standard Chartered have<br \/>\nobserved that growth will be sustained over 7 percent in FY22-26 and this<br \/>\nshould drive Bangladesh&#8217;s GDP up to US$ 500 billion and per capita to $3,000<br \/>\nby FY26.<\/p>\n<p>Bangladesh remains a compelling growth story, despite the global pandemic,<br \/>\nthey opined.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the bank&#8217;s global research team were speaking at a media session<br \/>\nheld today following the 2021 Bangladesh session of the Bank&#8217;s Global<br \/>\nResearch Briefing series, said a press release.<\/p>\n<p>Planning Minister MA Mannan graced the event as the chief guest, while<br \/>\naround 300 of the bank&#8217;s clients joined via video conferencing during the<br \/>\nvirtual event.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, MA Mannan said, &#8220;The people of Bangladesh, including the<br \/>\ngovernment and our business community, have once again demonstrated our<br \/>\ntremendous resilience ensuring that our shared development journey might have<br \/>\nslowed, though it has not been halted. We remain as committed as ever in<br \/>\nfostering a business-friendly climate, so that we can continue on our journey<br \/>\nof inclusive progress and prosperity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Global Head of Research and Chief Strategist of the Standard Chartered<br \/>\nEric Robertsen said, &#8220;While the pace and distribution of global recovery<br \/>\nremains highly uneven, Bangladesh has made a strong comeback with one of the<br \/>\nhighest GDP growths in the world in 2020. A robust vaccination program and<br \/>\nimplementation of strategic infrastructure projects are expected to further<br \/>\nincrease momentum towards the nation&#8217;s LDC graduation&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Standard Chartered Economist for South Asia Saurav Anand said,<br \/>\n&#8220;Bangladesh&#8217;s economy is set to accelerate after a speed bump, with GDP<br \/>\ngrowth forecast at 5.5 percent in FY21 and 7.2 percent in FY22. The momentum<br \/>\nwill be driven by an export demand recovery, strong remittance inflows and<br \/>\npublic investment. Policy support is a prerequisite for a smooth transition<br \/>\nto middle-income status, with per capita GDP set to reach $3,000 by FY26.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chief Executive Officer of the Standard Chartered Bangladesh Naser Ezaz<br \/>\nBijoy said, &#8220;The government of Bangladesh has navigated the internal and<br \/>\nexternal challenges of the pandemic remarkably well. The resilience of<br \/>\nBangladesh economy gives us cause for optimism. As the vaccination drive<br \/>\ncontinues, the economy is set to accelerate, while lower debt levels compared<br \/>\nto its peers provide medium term fiscal runway for growth.
