\u2013 Road Transport and Bridges Minister
\nObaidul Quader today said the government will not do anything that
\ngoes against the interests of journalists.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina\u2019s government is
\njournalist-friendly one. It is very sympathetic to any issue of media.
\nKeep trust in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,\u201d he told a press
\nconference at his official residence here.<\/p>\n
Quader, also the Awami League General Secretary, said the premier
\nalways stay beside journalists in following the path of constructive
\njournalism.<\/p>\n
Calling upon the country\u2019s journalist community to be patient, he
\nsaid journalists collect information in various ways for professional
\nreasons.<\/p>\n
Except unpublished information, Quader said, they have opportunities
\nto gather information applying proper procedures of the Right to
\nInformation Act but it must be considered whether the processes,
\nfollowed by an experienced journalist, is accurate or not.<\/p>\n
He also urged journalists to think whether it is logical to take
\nside of journalist Rozina Islam before the truth comes out through a
\nprobe.<\/p>\n
The road transport minister said journalists perform their
\nprofessional duties every day at the Secretariat and gather
\ninformation but no one secretly takes photos of files or takes away
\ndocuments.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe concerned reporter admitted her mistakes too,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Mentioning that nobody is above the law, Quader said, \u201cSince the
\nissue is under investigation, I don\u2019t want to make any comment on it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Detective Branch (DB) of police has already been given the
\nresponsibility to conduct an investigation into the matter and the
\ngovernment will not interfere to this end, he said.<\/p>\n
The AL general secretary said although BNP has been raising
\nimaginary allegations, the government in fact does not believe in
\nrepression.<\/p>\n
The BNP leaders are deliberately doing criticism against the
\ngovernment and the prime minister every day, but no BNP leader is
\nharassed or arrested, he said.<\/p>\n
Quader said that the Sheikh Hasina\u2019s government always welcomes
\nconstructive criticism and respects freedom of journalism and public
\nopinion.<\/p>\n
He said the BNP leaves polls in midway not respecting public opinion
\nand even it insults people by not going to parliament after its men
\nare being elected.<\/p>\n
The government, he said, believes in free flow of information and
\nfreedom of media. Due to the liberal democratic attitude of the
\ngovernment, media have flourished largely in the country in recent
\ntimes, he added.<\/p>\n
Quader said the Ninth Wage Board has emphasised the interest of the
\njournalists. He also lauded the role of the media in upholding the
\nspirit and values of independence, flourishing the country\u2019s democracy
\nand building a non-communal Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
Later in the day, the road transport and bridges minister joined an
\nagreement signing ceremony through videoconferencing from his official
\nresidence.<\/p>\n
Bangladesh Bridge Authority and a Spanish consulting firm signed
\nthe agreement to formulate a master plan for the Bridge Department to
